Jim & Sue Coates
For those that don’t know us and have probably never met us we thought we would produce a small profile so you may know a little about us. We hope we shall have the opportunity to meet you and talk with you when you are next visiting the Dominican Republic.
We are Sue & Jim Coates who run Dominican Ministry. We hail from Birmingham, England. We were both born in 1954 and have been married since July 1973. We have two children, our daughter Sarah, born in September 1976, and our son David, born in June 1979. Sarah is currently single and David is married to Natalie, and they have a daughter Luisa, who was born in January 2005.
In a previous life Jim worked for bankers Lloyds for 27 yrs finishing his career as a Business Banking Manager and Sue, after a period of being a full time mother and then having a part time job also worked full time for Lloyds Bank for 14yrs as a p.a. in a Business Centre.
Whilst living in England we attended St John’s, Walmley a lively Anglican evangelical church, where we both served in various capacities. If you wish you can find out more about the church at www.stjohnswalmley.co.uk
How Did We Get Here?
With the children growing up and moving on we began to pray that God would show us where in the world we could serve Him. We already had in mind we would like to live in France. However ‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are my ways your ways’, declares the Lord
Isaiah 55v8.
In response to His leading we came to the D.R. in March 2003 for one week to have a ‘look see’. We knew immediately this was where God wanted us to serve Him and once we stepped out He began to move. We put a deposit on a house here and went back to England and put our own house on the market. This sold within four days and by June 2003, three months later, we were moving into our new house here.
In between times we saw God open that many doors to enable a smooth passage for us we felt a little like the children of Israel leaving Egypt as we experienced so many miracles.
We arrived here knowing no-one with no plan, and not knowing what we were to do. The first person we were introduced to was a wonderful American Christian married to a Dominican lady and they immediately made us feel at home and helped us settle in our early months.
Since then we have met many wonderful Christian folk who have helped us on our way until finally we are where God wants us to be for the time being running the food ministry and maternity ministry.
If you do not have a copy of our leaflet which gives details of the work we do please let us know and we shall be pleased to email you one. You can contact us at coates20032001@yahoo.co.uk
